Flooring Options For Garages

When remodeling your garage into a livable space, you have a lot of flooring options. Depending on how you plan to use your garage will determine the best flooring option for you. Here are some of the most popular flooring styles for garage conversions.

Epoxy Floors

Are you looking to add a “cleaner” and more modern look to your garage? Epoxy floors are a great option for garages that will get a lot of foot traffic but can also handle vehicles. This style of flooring is durable, clean-looking, and easy to maintain. Motor oil can easily be wiped clean and debris is easy to sweep away. This style also has the ability to add a decorative chip beneath the topcoat to add a layer of shine that will take your garage to the next level.

Concrete Flooring

If your garage is going to be a high foot traffic area and store vehicles, concrete flooring is likely going to be your best flooring option. This style of flooring is easy to clean up and can handle the abuse a typical garage throws at it.

Tile Flooring

Tile flooring for garages comes in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. This style of garage flooring allows a homeowner to be creative with the design of their garage. Surface designs include diamond-top, ribbed, coin-top, and more. This style does not require any adhesive and is ideal for workshops, hobby areas, and weightlifting rooms. Parking your vehicle on floor tile is no issue.

Carpeting

If you are looking to convert your garage into a more livable space, installing carpeting may be the option for you. This option provides a level of insulation for your feet and comfort for walking around. However, moisture needs to be taken into account when designing a carpeted garage. Styles and colors are nearly unlimited and can be matched to any home’s design. This style is not ideal for garages that will also store vehicles.

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is easy to clean and affordable. This garage flooring style is highly fashionable and comes in a wide variety of colors and designs. Vinyl is a great option for game rooms and workshops.

Wood Flooring

Traditional wood flooring versus engineered wood flooring is the big decision with this style. Engineered wood flooring handles humidity better and does not change shape as easily. This style can easily be applied to concrete and other flooring styles without needing removal. Wood grains, colors, and designs are all customizable.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is the timeless classic flooring that fits well in all types of rooms. Ceramic tile flooring comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, and finishes. This garage floor style handles moisture well and can easily be cleaned. However, the ceramic floor does not support the high weight of vehicles, so it is best to limit this flooring style to foot traffic garages.

Stone Flooring

Strong, durable, and beautiful. This style aesthetically is unique, but it is not the best option for vehicle storage. Foot traffic areas can be designed to use stone flooring, but it is not suggested to store vehicles on them. Man caves, cigar rooms, wine storage, and game rooms are all great garage remodel options to use this flooring.
